Spice Trail

It's an andhra-style restaurant located on Montieth Road at Egmore. Visited for lunch on Sunday afternoon with friends. Ambience was nice with enough space between the tables. Valet parking was available, however we parked nearby.

Two of us opted for veg meals whilst other wants to have mutton dum biriyani and chicken tikka biriyani. Vanchiram fish fry, andhra pepper chicken and andhra chilli chicken were the sides.

Andhra Veg Meal (126₹) - Served on a big plate with a cut banana leaf. Unlimited rice with a big appalam, a cup of sambar, vatta kolambu, rasam, curd, bitter gourd fry, gourd daal koottu. Initially had a round of rice with ghee and daal powder, which was quite normal. Next rounds have gone with sambar, kolambu, rasam and curd. Never tasted anything spicy. Bitter gourd fry was oily, but was a good one. Gourd daal koottu was good as well. Curd was quite thick one, but pickle was not served. Never thought of asking it. This can't be called as an andhra meal as the spicy level was low. When asked for an extra cup of curd and subji, served quickly.

Mutton Dum Biriyani (210₹) - Just had a single big boneless mutton piece in a oily non-spicy biriyani. Expected to have a hyderabadi style, but ended with a chennai-style one

Chicken Tikka Biriyani (210₹) - It was better than the previous one. Included four medium sized chicken tikka pieces. Both type of briyani were served with a half boiled egg, onion raita and a cup of nonveg gravy.

Vanchiram Fish Fry (200₹) - One of the best dishes we had today. A thick piece of seer fish fried enough with lot of spices. Found some crushed daniya on the toppedup masala.

Andhra Pepper Chicken (210₹) - Tender chicken pieces cooked in a pepper based masala. Good one, but the quantity was little.

Andhra Chilli Chicken (200₹) - Another tender chicken dish actually called as "pancha merapu kodi" meaning chicken with five hot spices. To be frank, it was a non-spicy green capsicum based chicken curry. A different kind of chicken dish made with low spicy masala mingled with the taste of capsicum. Liked it for the unique taste.

Definitely a good place for people who wants to have non-spicy food. But spicy food eaters like us may not visit more than once. If you ever visit, just go for chicken or fish meal instead of biriyani which is not that worthy.
