Novelty Tea House

My visits to sowcarpet never ends without munching north-indian chat. It was just a temple visit on a saturday evening for my family, but I had other plans. Persuaded my wife to have some chai before entering the temple. Initially chumbled a samosa(20₹) at the road-side "Mehta Bros" stall. Not a hot one, but was certainly delicious, served with some yummy mint and ketchup. Oops I forgot to take a pic as I was ravenously hungry.

Later we entered the legendary "Novelty Tea House". Now my wife got suspicious about my intention of taking them to mint street. This eatery was initially started just as a tea shop before 60 years by one Mr.Shah. Ordered a chai(35₹) and a pav bhaji(100₹). I was having this Mumbai based street food after several years as it was not that good in other parts of Chennai. "Pav" was soft, nicely tossed with butter served with chopped onions, cut lemon and good amount of tangy vegetable curry with a spoonful of butter on the top.

Though the food is little pricey, the taste will make you satisfied. A single tea was good enough for two. Saw few people on the other tables having idlies and dosa. I always restrict myself to north indian food when I am at Mint street. There are so many delicacies to have from muruku sandwich to vada pav to kesar lassi. No wonder why this locality is called a mini-Rajasthan or mini-Gujarat.
