Panamarathu Briyani

What to eat: Briyani

Location: Panamarathu Briyani, New Mahalipatti Road (Near St Marys Church on East Veli St), Madurai

Once upon a time, there was a man selling chicken and mutton briyani under a palm tree, but he had no name for his business. And it became famous among the locals because of the taste and low cost. So the people have named the shop as "Ottha Panamarathadhi briyani" (means briyani shop under a palm tree). And the vendor was happy with the name. This is how this shop emerged in madurai town. After several years, the name was changed to "Panamarathu Briyani". Their briyani is very yummy...vfm... but don't have a good ambience to have lunch with family. Most of the people (including my father-in-law) used to get briyani parcels for their family. They also have side dishes like muttai kari, paya, chicken 65, ...A must visit shop for briyani parcels.
