Soundaram's Cheetinad Sweets and Snacks

Where: Soundaram's Chettinad Sweets & Snacks,

Location:

Verdict:
Doesn't make sense of visiting Karaikudi if not tasted chettinad style snacks. That's why we were at Soundaram's Chettinad Snacks located few yards away from karaikudi new bus stand.
Interested to see a man doing just kai murukkus.

Bought few கை முறுக்கு, தேன் குழல், சீடை, தட்டை, அதிரசம்,...for friends and colleagues back home. Even my friends who earlier said they want nothing, but bought a lot after entering the place. Never miss out when you hit this tiny town.

Desotta Bakery

Location:

Verdict:
Had a visit to Desotta, one of the finest bakeries in Chettinad region as suggested by a local friend. Packed some macaroons (1200₹ per kg) for the little one.

Sample given was a tastier one. Happy to see one of the old time favourite cream puff. My friend packed some ajwain biscuit sticks and baby biscuits. By this, we call it a day for our Karaikudi trip.

Sri Priya Mess

What to eat: Authentic Chettinad Cuisine

Where: Sri Priya Mess, Kallukatti, Karaikudi

Verdict: Have you ever wondered how an authentic chettinad Meal would be? You should visit Priya mess in the town of Karaikudi to taste spicy non veg Chettinad style meal.

After completing multiple Temple visits, we were starving hungry and want to have some spicy nonveg food. Parked our car in the parking space available next to the mess and then entered the food heaven. There were several women waiters busy serving varieties of meat, poultry, fish and sea food ranging from quail, country chicken, mutton(chops, thalai(head) curry, moolai(brain), liver, suvarotti(spleen)), fish, prawns, crab, etc.

Ordered for meals alongwith fish fry, mutton chops, country chicken fry, prawns fry. Meals is just boiled rice, raw banana fry, Veg koothu. Our lady waiter served a spoon of country chicken thokku on the rice....it was absolutely divine. Next had mutton thokku, crab thokku, elumbu (bone) Kolambu, rasam and butter milk.

At the end it was a slap-up meal for 5 NV and 1 Veg eaters at the cost of just ₹1320. They even gave a bottle of hot water to mix cerelac for my kid. And showed around the delicacies kept inside and told me to take snaps if required. Had a pleasant gulkand beeda for 30₹ whilst paying the bill. Never miss out this place if you visit the capital of Chettinad.
