Azad Hotel

As we had tried Prabhu Hotel yesterday, tonight we chose Azad for dinner. Being one of the oldest eateries of Nagercoil, they serve delicious mutton and chicken dishes. However they are not that good in making briyani when compared to "Prabhu".

Just want to try some outstanding dishes, but not a heavy meal. Therefore limited our order with appam(10₹) and parotta(15₹). Sides were mutton chops(150₹) and chicken chops(140₹).
I sampled an Appam and found it was sour. Not a best, just ok to have. But the mutton chops gravy was a pleasure 👌. Found a piece of spleen and few liver pieces as well on it. Had to repeat it as we fell in love with the gravy.

Chicken chops was a lipsmacking gravy with 2 big pieces. Parotta was soft as usual. Parotta was accompanied with a salna gravy which was also good.

Only surprise was the empty tables although the food was tasty as well as economical. Some Nagercoilians say Azad is not that good like earlier. But our experience was awesome. And I must suggest everyone to visit this hotel during Nagercoil trip. And if you come here, better stay near tower junction as lot of good eateries (veg as well as nonveg) are located in walkable distance. And it is far better than staying in Kanyakumari as this place is located in the middle of all tourist spots.

Finally whilst walking back to our hotel, had a lemon nannari sarbath(12₹ yes It was just twelve) in a nearby fruit stall before calling it a day.

Hotel Prabhu

A short family trip to India's south most place also included visit to few food joints. Tonight we had dinner at Hotel Prabhu near Tower junction at Nagercoil.

This place has 'n' number of rules which one has to obey to have food over there. One among that is stags are not allowed in family eating area which is in the first floor. And they don't serve salna (plain gravy) for parotta and briyani by default. But if you order a chicken or mutton dish (starter or something else), then only they serve chicken or mutton gravy(with no piece). They don't accept orders after 3:15pm for lunch and 9:45pm for dinner.

Our order was quite simple to start with chilly chicken and some regular parotta with butter chicken. Mains were nattu kozhi briyani and mutton briyani. Food was served in a banana leaf and the water served was a hot one(good to have such especially while visiting with kids).

Nattu kozhi briyani had such a big leg piece and also good amount of meat in the second piece. Both varieties of briyani were made of seeraga samba rice and the quantity was good enough of two. Therefore even if it was little pricey, it is very economical. They have given good amount of chicken gravy and onion for all of us. No complaints from any of our family members. Dinner set us back by 880₹.

If you don't mind to follow their rules, then it really an awesome place for lip smacking food.

Arya Bhavan - Nagercoil

One of the reason why we chose to stay in a hotel near tower junction. Hotel Arya bhavan located in court road near tower junction serves the best south indian vegetarian food in Nanjil nadu.

We usually had breakfast at this restaurant almost daily on this trip. On the first day morning, we visited the A/C family hall. They don't have bottled water as there is no need of it. Customers are served with boiled herbal water as like in Kerala. So we don't have to worry about giving water to kids.

Ordered for idly(22₹ per set), plain dosai (60₹), poori set (58₹), vadai (7₹). Idly was so soft that I regret for not ordering for myself. It was served along with regular coconut chutney and sambar. But also had an unique chilly chutney and ellu podi. Both coconut and tomato chutney were placed in small vessels on the table so that we can have as much as needed.

Plain dosai was regular. Vadai was good, but the size was small. Compared to the cost, the size is okay. Poori set had potato masala and a cup of dal. All were just awesome.

Finally washed down the meal with coffee whilst others had tea (each 25₹ ). The price I have mentioned here is A/C hall price. In non a/c hall food is generally cheaper by 20%. They also have private car parking space. You can also park on the road side like us. Don't miss if you hit Nagercoil.
