Butter Bun

What to eat: Butter Bun - A sweet bun tossed with butter and sugar on tawa.

Location: Sri KasiRaj Tea Stall, Pandiya Vellalar St/South Veli St, Madurai

Cost: Just 15 INR per piece

Verdict: Ample amount of butter and sugar makes the bun so yummy and it's packed in a banana leaf which adds additional flavor. Not to miss in your Madurai trip. Not advisable for regular consumption due to high calories. but once in a while it's ok to treat the craving soul.

Sundal Vandi

What to eat: Sundal

Location: Sundal vandis' on the streets of madurai

Verdict: You can find Sundal vandis (normal thallu vandi) on the streets of Madurai selling different varieties of sundals, apart from mango, pineapple slices, boiled kappai(tapioca), corn,...Found one opposite to Pothys in West Masi St. Bought a pack of whole black gram sundal for 10 INR.. It was filling as usual with toppings of coriander, onions.

Sree Sabarees

What to eat: Filter Coffee along with some fried lentil or rice based snacks in different names.

Location: Hotel Sree Sabarees, Town Hall Road, Madurai

Cost: 12 rupees for a big cup of filter coffee.

Verdict: Second best veg restaurant (Modern Restaurant always stays in top) in Madurai. We used to go there to munch a couple of vada or bajji or pattanam pakoda or appam or bonda ( I don't remember all the names ) along with some coffee just by standing on the street. You can also go in for tiffin or a south indian meal. Last evening I had a walk to that place just for a coffee. Madurai is a best town for a food walk. You can roam around and taste various items which you may not have seen in your life earlier.
