Hotel Virudhunagar

What to eat: Muslim style Biriyani

Where: Hotel Virudhunagar, G.N. Chetty Road, T.Nagar, Chennai

Verdict: If you want to taste mutton briyani similar to the one available at muslim kalyanam, then you must visit Virudhunagar hotel. However be prepared to wait at least 30mins on a weekend. We got seated after around 30mins of giving my name to the supervisor.

Ordered for 2 mutton briyani and a Chettinad Chicken fry. Mutton Biriyani was made of basmati rice, little less than sufficient quantity for a normal eater. It was such a big piece of mutton on each Biriyani. It comes along with bun halwa, but only on Sundays. May be that is the reason for 30₹ more for biriyani on sundays.

I am not a fan of bun halwa, so nothing much to say about that. Biriyani was served along with raita, dalcha and boti gravy. Raita and dalcha were tasty as usual. Boti gravy was tasting like elumbu Kolambu. Chettinad Chicken fry had 3 big pieces, with lot of bones . Nothing was hot, but just warm. We ended the meal with hot steamed rice and rasam (mulligatawny soup) which was given as complimentary for Briyani. Lunch set us back by 680₹.
