Where: Padaneer Cart, South Marret St, Madurai
Verdict: My wife wants to have Palm nectar aka Padaneer before we leave Madurai. It's a drink extracted from the top of palm tree before sunrise. I never had this at least for the past 15 years. So I left home with an ambition of finding a Padaneer guy. Finally found a guy selling this natural drink on a street side. Had a glass full of padaneer for 10₹ and also bought 3 in a tookku satthi(vessel) for home.
The drink had chunnaambu smell, sweet and a little wierd taste. Later heard that it inherited some taste from the mud pot which is bit new. On old mud pots, you won't have this smell. If you leave it to ferment, it becomes thoddy which is banned in Tamil nadu, but widely available in Kerala.
At the end, it's a healthy natural drink having high nutritive value...that too for a price of a tea.A must to have drink whilst visiting rural tamilnadu.
