Junior Kuppanna

What to eat: Erode/Kongu style cuisine

Where: Hotel Junior Kuppanna, Nandhambakkam, Chennai

Verdict: I left office along with a colleague for dinner in Junior Kuppanna. Ordered for Egg dosa, Kari(mutton) dosa and Chicken Kottu parotta. Egg dosa was super soft with a nice topping of eggspread...had coconut chutney (was so fresh), onion chutney, garlic gravy and Chicken gravy. Garlic gravy was too tasty compared to chicken gravy.

Mutton Kari dosa had crispy topping of egg spread and tiny mutton pieces. Chicken Kottu parotta was a large portion, crispy pieces of parotta and chicken...accompanied with mutton gravy and yummy onion raita. It's better to order egg kotthu instead of chicken as its too costly compared to the amount of meat added. Dinner set us back by 605₹. You should definitely try dosa varieties here.

Kumarakom Restaurant

What to eat: Karimeen Polichathu, Beef Ularthiyadhu, Arabian Pulpy Grape Juice, Ada Pradhaman

Location: Kumarakom Resaurant, Opp DLF, Ramapuram, Chennai

Verdict:
We a gang of 31 attacked Kumarakom with the only goal of filling our tummies with good food. Thanks to our colleague who had sponsored for the mass meal. Blocked several tables and started ordering for the first 15 minutes starting with Hot & Sour Chicken Soup to appetizers made of fish, chicken, mutton, beef, veggies to main dish. Some guys were little disappointed as there was no tandoori or afghani chicken available for lunch...was surprised as I told them about this visit even before 2 days. Such a careless attitude must be avoided whilst running a restaurant.
Service was toooooo slow...It took more than 2 hours for us to complete the meal after cancelling few items as they take long time.

Here is my feedback on the soup/appetizer/main course that I had tasted.

Hot & Sour Soup - had one by two which was a decent quantity, little spicy.

Karimeen Polichathu - Top-notch starter, bit pricey. A must try dish over here.

Paneer Tikka - Paneer pieces were little hard. Just don't go for it.

Nettili Fish Fry - I am not an ardent fan of nettili fish. Just had a single piece which was crispy as expected.

Kerala Parotha - Soft and large in diameter. Only concern is it was made of maida. Would be nice its a wheat parotha.

Steam Rice - Simple boiled Basmathi rice. rice grains were lengthy.

Kerala Rice - As they took more than 20 mins, we have cancelled it for our table. But other guys in the next table got it.

Ayila Fish Gravy - Bit liquid, but a very good combination with steam rice and fish fry

Prawn Masala - Regular gravy with some pieces of tiny prawns. Quantity was good enough for 3 people to have along with rice or parotta.

Chilli Beef, Beef Fry & Beef Ularthiyadhu - I don't eat beef. But my friends were happy with all 3 varieties.

Chicken Fried Rice - Both the quantity and the taste was nice. Can be easily shared by 2 people.

Ada Pradhaman - It was a delicious payasam made with vellam. All were happy to end their meal with this desert.

Arabian Pulpy Grape Juice - Never expected such a divine grape juice. Tasted little like a vine with lot of grape pulps on it. A Must to have drink over here.

Masala Papad - Bit salty. Otherwise just ok.

Veg Meal - Decent veg meal with kerala rice, sambar, moor kulambu, appalam, veggies,..

Fruit Salad with Strawberry/Vanilla/Butter Scotch Ice cream - Had cut fruits like apple, pine apple, white & black grapes, pomegranate with a single scoop of ice cream. No complaints on this.

Overall bill was 19,885 Rs. But we negotiated to have 2000rs discount.

If you go as 2 or 4, its fine to have food within an hour. But when you go in a larger group make sure some one goes early and order the items as they take 20-30 mins for several dishes.Otherwise you will end up 2 to 3 hours to complete the treat.

Apoorva Veg Restaurant

What to eat: Vegetarian Indianized Chinese Cuisine

Where: Apoorva Veg Restaurant, St Thomas Mount, GST Road, Chennai

Verdict: We were on the way to drop my friend in Airport. Hence stopped at this place for veg food (purataasi effect). Ordered for veg fried rice, veg noodles, Gopi and Paneer Manchurian. Fried Rice was not hot, should have been fried little more... apart from this both rice and noodles were good, without any MSG/Aginamotto. It comes along with ketchup and chilli sauce as condiments.

Both Gopi and Paneer Manchurian were well presented with toppings of chopped carrot, cabbage and spring inions, but bit spicy for us. Thank God we didn't order chilli paneer. Ketchup and mint chutney were the condiments for Manchurian. Paneer was so soft, but not crispy.

Got the bill for 640₹ which is not costly compared to the restaurants in Airport. Overall a good place to have decent veg food in GST road before a flight.
