Where: Thambi Vilas, Habibullah Road, T.Nagar

Verdict: It was a lazy Sunday and we don't want to sit idle at home. So
it was decided to visit the latest buzz in the town called Thambi
Vilas. Situated in Habibullah road with enough car parking space on
sides of the road. Interior was decorated in vintage style reminding old
Madras. One would be welcomed by songs from MGR & Shivaji films
coming out from a gramafone...there should be an MP3 player inside that
non-revolving plate .
Happy to see good old pics of Madras and several heritage buildings,
hanging on the walls. Interior painting was done in yellow for a
pleasant ambience. Even the flooring was made of Atangudi handmade
tiles.
Ordered for Veg Meals, Chicken Briyani, Mutton Salna Parotta, Mutton Chukka, Mutton Kola Urundai, Ilaneer Payasam and Paal Sarnath. Veg Meals had unlimited rice, but limited veggies, just enough for an average apetite. Chicken Briyani was yellowish seeraga samba based one with raita, salna and a dessert made of tomato (weird is it? but it was yum yum). Mutton Salna Parotta was just a single piece of Parotta well marinated in a thick mutton gravy with little piece of meat on a big bone. Neither Briyani nor Mutton Salna was spicy, rather they were bit bland. Mutton kola urundai was such soft and flavourful, reminded of the same I had in Dindigul Venu.
Mutton chukka was spiced and cooked at perfect level and had a good number of pieces which you wouldn't expect for just 140₹. Paal Sarbath was not as expected...hence not my cup of tea...should have gone for paneer soda. Ilaneer Payasam had tiny tender coconut meat submerged in coconut milk (was expecting a real payasam).
They don't serve any foreign soft drinks like Pepsi or coke, but sell bovonto, nannari sarpath and goli soda(normal & panneer). Lunch set us back by 680₹. Overall a nice place for the nostalgia of old Madras and non-spicy Chettinad food.
