Suryas is one of the best restaurants in Colombo serving South Indian veg cuisine. Located at Sea street next to new kathiresan temple.The same management runs Saraswati Cafe, a cheaper version just opposite on the street.
It was my brother's decision to treat us here on our first day in Colombo. Kid wanted a cheese dosa(390LKR), whilst we ordered special plain dosa (230LKR). Cheese dosa was bigger than plain dosa, but we had two plain dosa on a plate. Later came to know that by default they add a service charge of 10% on the bill.
Both the type of dosa were served with typical Tamil Nadu style sambar, coconut chutney and tomato chutney. Loved the dosa as it was similar to the one we make at my home. I have not tried the cheese dosa, but the kid liked it and finished it quick. Initially shocked after looking at the prices, as generally we are not used to pay in three digits for a dosa in India(I don't go to Saravana Bhavan). Ok anyhow inflation is little bit high in Colombo. Whatever it is, if you or your family decided to have good south indian food in this city, just don't miss it.
